About the artist
Liz Nania is a Boston-based artist working in painting, textile arts and book arts. Liz has been continuously making art since she could first wield a crayon. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree cum laude from Boston University College of Fine Arts, and taught art for ten years. She has exhibited in five solo shows and numerous group shows. Her art jewelry was commissioned by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, to accompany the Crowning Glories: Two Centuries of Tiaras show and the Art Deco show, and is included in collections in the U.S., Europe, and Japan.
When not making art, she works as the director and founder of OUT to Dance, a swing, salsa and ballroom dance studio for adults.

About the media
Encaustic paint is a mixture of heated beeswax, tree resin, and pigments. It is archival. Liz Nania paints the molten wax mixture on cradled birch panels, often adding elements of mixed media, primarily on an intimate scale of 12” or smaller. Liz paints as many as 20 layers of encaustic, and selectively incorporates oil pastel, charcoal, metal leaf, paper elements, and other materials.
Her textile art begins with a base of vintage embroidered household linens, such as an old table runner or tablecloth; she stitches found objects and many layers of other materials onto the base, then adds her own embroidery.
